The reason Amami Oshima and Tokunoshima were selected as a World Heritage Site is because of their "biodiversity".
Amami Oshima and Tokunoshima, which are located on the "boundary of biogeographical regions," are
known as rare islands with either diverse coexisted organisms or endemic and endangered species that can only be seen here in the world.
Amami has a subtropical climate with mild winters, tropical rainforests and a geographical environment with no natural predators unique to remote islands. Oshima and Tokunoshima are named as "Oriental Galapagos".
Beautiful nature and precious ecosystems, which have been carefully preserved, have been registered as a World Natural Heritage Site, a global heritage that should be handed down to next generations.
