SIGHTSEEING in KAGOSHIMA
Kagoshima City
Kagoshima City is the central area of Kagoshima Prefecture. A journey of
Kagoshima starts here.
Kagoshima City, looking up at Sakurajima, a volcano filled with the power of the
earth, is an area with many attractions for sightseeing, dining, shopping, and other
travel activities.
Since sightseeing attractions are scattered throughout Kagoshima City, we recommend
that you take a bus tour for an efficient tour plan.
Ibusuki
One of the specialties of Ibusuki is "Suna-mushi Onsen". This is a hot
spring method unique to Kagoshima Prefecture, a volcanic country, where people are
buried in warm sand that utilizes volcanic heat to warm their bodies from the core,
promoting sweating throughout the body and detoxifying the body.
You will feel
refreshed as you sweat comfortably! With the ocean spread out before your eyes and
the quiet sound of the tide rocking you, your mind will naturally relax.
Enjoy
the luxury of a sand steam onsen while overlooking Mount Kaimon, a unique experience
only available in Kagoshima.
Kirishima
The Kirishima area is steeped in myths and legends about the beginning
of Japan.
The Kirishima mountain range, with more than 20 volcanoes, attracts many climbers
with its colorful trekking routes that change their appearance every spring, summer,
fall, and winter, including colorful flower carpets and azure lakes.
Kirishima Jingu Shrine, the largest spiritual spot in the Kirishima area, is also a
popular tourist spot in Kirishima. The majestic presence and beauty of the shrine,
clad in the power of the Kirishima Mountain Range that rises behind it, continue to
attract visitors.
After visiting Kirishima Jingu Shrine, why not stay at the
Kirishima Onsen Hotel and enjoy Kagoshima cuisine and hot springs to beautifully
refresh your body and soul?
Yakushima
Yakushima Island was the first island in Japan to be registered as a
World Natural Heritage site. It is also called the "Alps of the Sea" because of its
mountainous region of 1,800-meter-high mountains.
The magnificent nature, where one can feel the breath of primitive times, and the
wide variety of flora and fauna that enjoy life there are "treasures of mankind"
that should be handed down to future generations. Yakushima Island is said to be a
microcosm of the climate of the whole of Japan, so you will always be able to see
new faces whenever you visit.
You can visit Yakushima on a day trip, but if possible, please stay overnight and
take the time to appreciate the changing face of Yakushima over time.
Kagoshima City Aquarium
A new popular tourist spot in Kagoshima. The aquarium boasts a location
that looks up at Sakurajima, the symbol of Kagoshima, right in front of
you.
Approximately 30,000 exhibits of about 500 species of sea creatures from
Kagoshima Prefecture are displayed according to various themes. In particular, the
Kuroshio Aquarium, where the world's largest fish, the whale shark, swims
comfortably, is truly a sight to behold.
In the outdoor water connected to the
sea, visitors can enjoy up-close performances such as the aquarium dolphins' jumps,
which are very powerful!
Senganen
Senganen Garden is the villa of the Shimazu family, which ruled the land
of Satsuma about 350 years ago. The highlight of the garden is its seasonal beauty.
The history and culture of the samurai society of Satsuma are still preserved in the
garden.
The garden is a magnificent single-page rented garden with Kinko Bay as a
pond and Sakurajima as a mountain, which is a superb view on a truly grand scale
typical of Kagoshima Prefecture.
The Iso area where Senganen Garden is located is
registered as a World Heritage Site as part of the "Industrial Revolutionary
Heritage of Meiji Japan. Visitors can learn the grand historical story of Japan's
modernization.
